Use Science Week to introduce mystery and challenge

Mission Mendeleev - Discovering the Periodic Table

Pupils follow a story about the exploration of a distant planet, analysing data about substances found there. They look for patterns within the data - in an attempt to structure a meaningful table that will enable them to predict missing properties of some substances. This is an exciting way for students to explore and understand the logic behind the Periodic Table.

Extension Activity Included - Scientific Design

All materials can be linked to elements of Earth and the ultimate challenge is for teams to design a container to transport Caesium safely through the universe.

Our presentations cover targeted scientific criteria but also develop thinking skills, communication skills and problem solving techniques. The teacher facilitates the lesson(s) using the onscreen presentation, supported by a detailed teacher guide. If your aim is to encourage thinking skills rather than rote learning and reward the process of problem solving rather than the correct answer alone - this presentation saves you time in planning and preparation.
